Nolan Charley

About Nolan Charley He was born in 1971 in Shiprock NM and still lives on the reservation there. Most of his time has been in the Four-Corners area. He is Dine-Navajo. Nolan Charley is the father of two children. He grew up living with his grandparents and great grandparents working on the farm. He became interested in carving around 19 years of age. He worked with Alabaster and at the time was one of few Native American Navajos that was carving animals other than eagles. Nolan loved hunting which gave him perspective about the animals that he carved. He has not kept track but estimates making 250-400 carvings.
